There is a lot going on at the Commons in July! Check out these highlights -- we have something for everybody! Take a Hike! As the twice-weekly exercise class is on hiatus for the summer, the Commons is instead sponsoring several hikes. The next one is July 11th, hiking to Sioux Charley. Contact us for more info or to sign up. Summer Reading Program The Stillwater County Library's summer reading program continues to meet at the Commons on July 6, 13, and 20 at 10:30am. All elementary-school kids will enjoy the fun activities sponsored by the library - feel free to come even if you haven't been able to make it before now. Cinnamon Saturday Our June "Cinnamon Saturday" was a big hit! We're doing it again on Saturday, July 15th starting at 9am. Come down for a delicious cinnamon roll and cinnamon latte (or other drink of your choice) and enjoy mingling with your neighbors and making new friends! Out of the Valley: Dealing with Loss Sara Bollman, a certified bereavement facilitator, will be leading a five-session exploration of the grieving process. This is sure to be beneficial to anyone who is struggling with the death of a loved one. Come and receive compassionate support in your time of grief. The class will take place from 10-11:30am on Saturdays, beginning July 15th and ending August 12th. To register, please fill out our contact form with "grief class" in the comment section. Basic Quilting Workshop Nancy Roodell is lending her quilting expertise to teach two basic techniques that will result in something amazing! This 3-day class will meet on July 25-27 from 9am to noon. Absarokee Days On July 29th the Commons will have a refreshment booth set up for Absarokee Days. Stop by and say hi and get an iced coffee, iced tea, or Italian soda!

Nancy Roodell is lending her quilting expertise to offer a 3-day basic quilting class at the Commons. She will teach two basic techniques that will result in something amazing! Don't forget that Cloud 9 Quilts is just a few doors down from the Commons and is a great place to shop for fabric and notions! To register for this class, please fill out our contact form with "quilt workshop" in the comment section. One of the MainStreet Commons's featured artists, Jacqueline B. Designs, is offering a workshop to teach you how to make your own beautiful custom wreaths. This is a great opportunity to be creative and learn a new skill!
*If you would like to bring your own materials, all you need to do is take a walk down one of our many country roads! Pictured are grasses/grains that can be found on most road sides. (No cheat grass, please!) A big armful should be adequate (about 10-12" in diameter). Stems only need to be 8-9" long. Jacqueline will provide forms, wire, glue, and tools. The Commons is gearing up for summer, and here's a preview: Summer Hours: Beginning June 1st, The Commons is shifting to summer hours.
Cinnamon Saturdays: Come down on June 10th, July 15th, and August 12th for "Cinnamon Saturday" and get delicious cinnamon rolls while enjoying conversation with others in our community! Our usual menu of tea, coffee, and espresso drinks will also be available. Summer Exercise: The twice-weekly exercise class is on hiatus during the summer, but that group will be hiking together throughout the summer and invite you to join them. The first hike will be up the East Rosebud trail on June 14th. Meet at the Commons at 8am. Summer Reading: Children's story hour is also on summer break, but the Stillwater County Library is stepping in to fill the gap by bringing their summer reading program to Absarokee! Kids will build birdhouses, go on a town scavenger hunt, and help clean up an area of town. Click here to see all the info and print a registration form for your kids. Come watch an artist at work! Thelma Senrud-Lukkes will give an oil painting demonstration at the Commons on Tuesday, May 16th at 10am and 6pm. This is a great opportunity for all ages to see the painting process, ask questions, and be inspired by Thelma's amazing ability and love for art. Refreshments will be served and a door prize given.
Thelma has been giving private painting lessons, teaching Adult Ed, and giving lectures and demos since 1983. She retired to Absarokee in 2011 and is working to establish the Absarokee Art Academy, which will make available in-depth study of oil painting and drawing. Her desire is to provide a rewarding experience for anyone in our community who is interested in art.
Come to the Commons for a fun time of card crafting; the result is sure to "wow" your mom on Mother's Day! On Tuesday, May 9th at 10am Debbie Hougen will teach you how to make a beautiful pop-up flower card. See the inside of the card in the video below. This musical duo of Kerry Skiles and Brian Mattson joins smooth harmonies and stellar acoustic guitar with strong songwriting talent. You'll walk away with their music in your head (and that'll be a good thing!)
